Residence Less Than 3,500 Square Feet
Steven Mooney, AIA
When the client presented the architect with a rough sketch for an island cottage, he was adamant about the compact footprint and minimal square footage, and he was committed to working with local craftspeople and contractors. The resulting cottage is a testament to general contractor Jack Wroblewski’s insistence on premium insulation and an exceptional mechanical system. The house also showcases the exquisite craftsmanship and attention to detail of Carl T. Brooks Custom Homes.
The simplicity and human-scale intimacy of this charming project won the day. The orientation of the rooms and screened porch makes the most of the lake views. Snuggled under the sloped roof and ceilings, the upstairs bedrooms must be lovely places to sleep during a thunderstorm. Due to the generous use of windows and the light reflecting off the white wood surfaces, the house glows inside.
