Design Intent/Solution
Overlooking the stunning Jean Nouvel–designed Guthrie Theater in downtown Minneapolis, this loft was originally created with a poorly defined living space and an underutilized terrace. The architects redesigned the space with clearly defined areas for cooking, dining, and entertaining. A dynamic, perforated stainless steel roof/ceiling plane and a dramatic 12- by 15-foot sliding glass door connect inside and out.
Judges’ Comments
The designers really understood the inherent strengths of the existing space. They created definition and connectivity between the various living areas while maintaining the openness and flexibility appropriate for a loft. The solution is brilliant in the way that it makes both the terrace and the view incredible amenities for the living space.
